Leviathan?

In Is 27:1 ed anche nel Sl 74 e 104, compare il nome di un animale che molri hanno definito "mitologico" come il Leviathan. Nel greco abbiamo il termine "drakwn" che trasliterato abbiamo il termine "dragone" ma che dovrebbe indicare il serpente di mare. Ma sia sa che forma avesse questo serpentone? In ebraico come dovrebbe essere tradotto?

Leviatàn (dall'ebraico: ciò che si raccoglie in pieghe) - In Giobbe XL è il dragone marino, è l'animale più forte dopo Behemot, creati il quinto giorno insieme e come tutti i viventi del mare (vedi Genesi I 20-21). Nel Salmo CIV versetto 26 si dice: Lo percorrono le navi ed il Leviatàn / che per trastullarsi tu hai plasmato. Nel capitolo 60 del Libro delle Parabole di Enoch è il primordiale drago femminile, uno dei due mostri della malvagità (l'altro è Behemot) con dominio sul mare e sulle acque. Al versetto 4 del capitolo XXIX dell'Apocalisse siriana di Baruc (testo apocrifo) si dice che sono i due esseri che il Signore farà vivere fino alla fine del mondo, quando lì farà morire per sfamare gli eletti: e Behemot si rivelerà dal suo luogo e Leviatàn salirà dal mare, entrambi i grandi draghi che ho creato il quinto giorno della creazione e ho custodito fino a quel tempo, e allora diverranno cibo per tutti coloro che saranno rimasti. L'interpretazione razionalista della Bibbia lo identifica con il coccodrillo. Nelle scritture rabbiniche è associato o identificato con il drago femminile del mare Rahab , come simbolo dei nemici del popolo di Israele in Isaia XXVII 1 ("In quel giorno il Signore punirà / con la sua spada dura, grande e potente / il Leviatàn, serpente fuggente, / il Leviatàn, serpente tortuoso, / ed ucciderà il dragone del mare.") o come nel Salmo LXXIV versetto 13 un essere dell'abisso primordiale e quindi avverso al progetto creativo di Dio e da Lui sconfitto: Tu fracassasti il capo al Leviatàn, / lo desti in pasto ai mostri marini. Nel medioevo diviene il simbolo del Diavolo in accordo a Apocalisse XII 1-2. Nel L'arte di evocare gli spiriti di Arbatel, Leviathan (è il nome in cui viene traslitterato in latino) è un demone, un angelo decaduto, uno dei quattro "principi" o "spiriti superiori" a capo dell'ordinamento infernale.

Both leviathan and behemoth are prominent in Jewish eschatology. In the Book of Enoch (lx. 7-9), Enoch saysCharles, "Book of Enoch," p. 155; comp. "the secret chambers of leviathan" which Elihu b. Berakel the Buzite will disclose, Cant. R. i. 4).

"On that day [the day of judgment] two monsters will be produced: a female monster, named 'Leviathan,' to dwell in the depths of the ocean over the fountains of the waters; but the male is called 'Behemoth,' who occupies with his breast a waste wilderness named 'Dendain' [read "the land of Naid" after LXX., ?? ?? ?a?d = , Gen. iv. 16], on the east of the garden, where the elect and the righteous dwell. And I besought that other angel that he should show me the might of these monsters; how they were produced on one day, the one being placed in the depth of the sea and the other in the main land of the wilderness. And he spake to me: 'Thou son of man, dost seek here to know what is hidden?'"

According to II Esdras vi. 49-53, God created on the fifth day the two great monsters, leviathan and behemoth, and He separated them because the seventh part of the world which was assigned to the water could not hold them together, and He gave to the behemoth that part which was dried up on the third day and had the thousand mountains which, according to Ps. i. 10, as understood by the haggadists ("the behemoth [A. V. "cattle"] upon a thousand hills"; comp. Lev. R. xxii.; Num. R. xxi.; and Job xl. 20), furnish behemoth with the necessary food. To the leviathan God gave the seventh part of the earth filled with water; and He reserved it for the future to reveal by whom and at what time the leviathan and the behemoth should be eaten.

In the Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch, xxix. 4, also, the time is predicted when the behemoth will come forth from his seclusion on land and the leviathan out of the sea, and the two gigantic monsters, created on the fifth day, will serve as food for the elect who will survive in the days of the Messiah.
